really, all this over Wonder Woman?

So I saw the new Wonder Woman costume design this morning and was full of meh. That was until both the local and national news ran stories on it. I mean really, did they finally stop that oil spill? National TV coverage for a freakin' Wonder Woman redesign, it's like we're living in OZ.

First off lets get this out the way immediately. The redesign sucks. I'm all for sexing her down a bit but the super 90s leather jacket is ridiculous and who in their right mind would try and pair a tiara and yoga pants?

Now about the media coverage. Wonder Woman's had about a thousand different looks. Here's a few.

Now I don't remember any news stories when she started wearing that awful white pantsuit thing, and that was just 4 years ago. I swear some publicist at Warner Brothers must have just cashed in a favor. Batman died 2 years ago and it barely made a ripple. I guess the lesson learned is that if DC had really wanted to move some books they should have just put him in a sleeveless tee.

Cosplay on parade

I wouldn't consider myself someone who's afraid to let their geek flag fly. I'm not quite Sheldon Cooper when it comes to my collection of nerdy t-shirts but I have my share. With that being said I don't think I'll be making the jump from Captain America t-shirt to actually gluing little white wings onto a vinyl mask.

In honor of those willing to strap on the spandex and in the spirit of convention season, here's a bunch of pics from my cosplay folder (yes the theme this week is clearing off my HD).

Invisible plane or not, you're never escaping the gaze of Faptain America

"but dad I wanted to be Yoda"
"shut up son, you don't know what you want"

This is just brilliant but it needs more Zoey

A female Ash? will wonders ever cease?

"but dad I want to be Batman"

nude Jean Grey. yeah that should pad the hits w/google image search

Batman and Robin fight the Joker, Batgirl fights jaywalking

"here baby let me show you how it's done"

"yeah I know where the distributor is but where's the hyperdrive?"

"rafael is cool but crude.."

I remember you from Driving Mr. T and The Day Paul Bunyun Cried..

This image is so huge you really have to click on it to appriciate it...

...that's what she said.

Holy crap, the full trailer for Space Battleship Yamato (Star Blazers in the states) looks freaking amazing. I wish I could go back in time and kidnap 7 year old me so he could see how awesome this is. Then I'd make him pull some weeds, my lawn is looking a bit ragged.

It's not a tumor

I had a whole thing I was going to do about the casting for the new X-men movie (more specifically how much it blows), but my head feels like it's going to explode so instead I'm going to take a nap. Here's something from the random image file for you.

A tale of two teams

So England and the US are both out of the world cup. Both teams finished the tourney with 1 win 2 ties and a loss and you can make a very strong argument that both teams were knocked out by superior teams. However similar those results are they can seem very different depending on your perspective.

Lets face it, the English are insane. They act like they invented soccer. They what? Really? hmmm.. did you read that thing about that falling tree branch? that stuff is messed up.

do want. a pet AT-AT

This is why the internet is awful, because now all I can think about is the fact that I don't have a pet AT-AT. All I have is this stupid pet GI Joe Hovercraft, and it never wants to go outside and play.

Landon Donovan slips one past the keeper

So there's a small possibility the US was knocked out of the World Cup because Landon Donovan knocked up some British woman.

Grant Wahl is reporting that a British tabloid will run the story of a British woman claiming she is pregnant with Landon Donovan’s child, presumably conceived during his loan spell at Everton. Donovan gave a characteristically phlegmatic response. “I was informed of the possibility during the World Cup, and if I need to take responsibility, then I will provide the appropriate support,” Donovan said.

~ theBigLead

Now I'm not saying that we lost yesterdays game because Landon Donovan's mind wasn't on the game and was more focused on the possibility of changing diapers and giving up half his salary, but I think the reason we lost is because Landon Donovan's mind wasn't on the game and was more focused on the possibility of changing diapers and giving up half his salary.

A Lightsaber Chart, cause you're nerdy

As much as I loathe the new movies I wish this chart also covered episodes II and III instead of just The Phantom Menace. I think my favorite thing about this is how Darth Vader's lightsaber is just like Anakin's (which makes tons of sense) but the lightsaber Luke builds on his own is more similar to Obi-Wan's. There's something to think about. I mean after you're done thinking about hot chicks... don't be such a dweeb man.

MLS WAG story of the year

In Europe Soccer players get all the ladies even if they look like this. But here in the states most soccer players drive Hyudais and have to share crappy apartments because the MLS minimum salary is 30,000 a year. So how does one land a super WAG when the doorman won't let you in the club 'cause you rolled up on steel 14"s? Facebook man... facebook.

Chicago Fire defender Krzysztof Krol was crowned the grand master of Facebook when he recently started dating Playboy model Patrycja Mikula. How did he score such an awesome date? He got her phone number off her Facebook page.

Wait a minute? People put their phone numbers up on facebook? That doesn't sound like the smartest decision in the world. I'm guessing Krzysztof was able to trick Patrycja into going out with him by claiming he was a Nigerian prince and just needed her help to get his money out of Africa.

One more thing, this Patrycja chick used to date MMA fighter and former UFC champ Andrei Arlovski. So I'm pretty sure when this guy turns up missing we'll know why.

for your viewing pleasure (hey not that much pleasure buddy) I've included the banner pic I almost ran and a picture of Patrycja with her MMA ex Andrei. Yeah there's a pitbull with them. This poor soccer guy is so dead.

Only in my Links

Oprah hates the handicapped. I've been telling people this for years. Finally 4chan has confirmed it.

Cats in space; a mostly fictional history. I have a feeling there might have been some photoshop involved here.

Debbie Gibson Vs Tiffany. Not on the radio, on TV. Both are scheduled to star in Mega Python vs Gatoroid. My money is on Gatoroid because it has added electrolytes.

needs more Thunder Muscle

Here's a random scene from The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret. Not only is it high-larious but it's a nice break from the soccer overload I've been feeling since yesterdays epic US win. And couldn't we all use a break from soccer today? I know Italy could.

In alll interweb fairness never heard of this show before but it was featured on Topless Robot's list of awesome & obscure british shows.

I thought Darth Vader was left footed

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away Darth Vader was brought down in the penalty box on a tackle from behind (probably by an Algerian). What happened next is better than Episodes I, II and III combined.

The Seattle Mist want you!

The Seattle Mist are holding open tryouts in Kent at the Wilson Playfields this weekend. Tryouts begin at 3pm and they ask bring "cute" workout gear and a pair of cleats. In unrelated news I think I will be taking my son out for a walk this Saturday at Wilson Park. 3pm sound good? see you there!

unsexy update. tryouts were on the 12th but I think this post still has merit.

Marvel knows most of their movies suck, plan to shorten them.

Yesterday (honestly, who blogs on a Sunday?) the Latino Review reported that Marvel is interested in the idea of making a few short films staring some of it's lesser known characters. Presumably then these shorts would play in front of Space Jam or Elektra or whatever crappy Disney movie needs a fanboy bump in ticket sales.

Honestly this all sounds like it's never going to happen, but what else am I supposed to talk about Amanda Bynes retiring from acting? Yeah that's what I thought. So without further ado here's my short list of marvel characters that need their own short film.

Iron Fist. Iron Fist is awesome. He uses Magic Kung-fu and wears a bandana mask, what more can you ask for? He has an origin that could be told in a 30 second voice-over and did I mention the Magic Kung-fu?

Dazzler. Dazzler is awful, so awful a short film about her could be awesome. Her power of turning sound into lasers could look really cool on screen. Sprinkle some Disney synergy into the mix by shoehorning an awful Miley Cyrus song into the film and you could have a big hit on the internets.

Black Cat. This would be a no brainer to play in front of the next Spider-man movie. She's Marvel's answer to Catwoman so the general concept is already familiar with most people. Also look at the costume, I'm pretty sure that would work on screen.

Deadpool. I'll admit it, I don't think we'll ever see a Deadpool movie. But a Deadpool short movie, a guy can still dream right?

Quicksilver. He's Magneto's son, how is it that he's been left out of 3 x-men movies?

Tigra. Furries are the next twilight!

Do they think they're Kick Ass?

Seriously another Scott Pilgrim vs the world trailer? Stop flooding the internets with your hipsterish take on comic book geek love, it's starting to make you look desperate Scott Pilgrim.

What about this guy

I know I know.. E3 is happening, the World Cup is exploding with soccer all around us and I have just one post over the last 2 days. my bad.

Things happened at the World Cup

Brasil beat Korea... barely. Before the match started one of the North Korean strikers was just bawling during the national anthem. His display of emotion warmed my icy hart, here's hoping the North Koreans make it through. I mean communism isn't all that bad right?

These Dutch ladies got thrown out of the Denmark/Netherlands match when they stripped off their Denmark fan gear to reveal skimpy orange dresses. Fifa claims they were trying to pull off some sort of viral marketing scheme. So if you're keeping score annoying horns 1, cute blond girls 0.

This busty Paraguay fan put her cell phone between her boobs. Clearly boobs are the new pockets.

The Batman Porno Review. Believe it or not, that picture came from the original TV show, not the porno.

NY Times does an I can Has Cheezburger article. The "I can Has Cheezburger" sites are like the Jay Leno of internet comedy. Need proof here's a quote from the article
Tess Mattos, a 41-year-old knitting instructor who traveled up from Portland, Ore., for the event, said she had been a fan of the network’s flagship site for three years. “It’s just a good, simple break from real life,” she said, adjusting the pair of sequined cat ears she was wearing. “It’s clever, but not mean-spirited.”
Next time you stumble onto their network remember that. You're one step removed from a 41 year old knitting instructor wearing cat ears.

Hugh Jackman will box your robot

Months ago I ran a little thing about a movie called Real Steal that sounded faker than fake, but here's a pic to prove it exists. In Real Steal, Hugh Jackman plays a former boxer that coaches a robot boxer he builds with his son. I'm guessing the moral of the story is that Hugh Jackman will star in anything.
