Occupy Half-Life 2

This weekend 30,000 people from a community group on Steam are planning to play Half-Life 2. They're doing it to try and get Valve's attention. As you may or may not be aware, Half-Life 2 is going to be 8 years old this year and Valve has been incredibly closed mouthed about a sequel. Considering the last Half-Life expansion, Episode 2, ended with a pretty big cliffhanger this has become a sort of sore spot with fans of the series.

The group isn't specifically asking for a sequel, they just want to know if they'll ever see one. Which seems pretty reasonable and a great excuse to play Half-Life 2 again.

You're Fired, Links

Everyone's fired from the X Factor. This morning they announced that Nicole Scherzineger, Paula Abdul and Steve Jones were all out on the X Factor. You know who should be fired? The producers that couldn't figure out how to put together a hit show around Cheryl Cole and Nicole Scherzinger.

DC comics is changing Captain Marvel's name. They're changing his name to Shazam, which lets be honest is what everyone calls him anyway. Now is there some way we can get Marvel to stop calling Marvel-Boy The Protector?

Endure the Simpson's Marathon, win $10,500. In celebration of the 500th episode of the Simpsons Fox is putting together a marathon viewing of all 500 episodes. Minus commercials, that's about 183 hours of straight Simpsons viewing. The person that stays up the longest wins $10,500. The person that falls asleep before season 8 wins at life.

The Old Republic is full of homosexual activists. Homosexual activists or people who don't freak out over the gays? Why can't we ever have some justified outrage over video games? Seriously, The Old Republic costs like 15 dollars a month to play, there's where the outrage should be!

First 4 minutes of The Walking Dead

I've been told that this is the first 4 minutes of Season 2.5 of the Walking dead. I've also been told that the Walking Dead TV show sucks and the comic is much better, which is a bunch of lies. The TV show is WAY better than the comic book. 2 reasons:

1. The comic book moves too fast. Characters die before you even have the chance to remember their names.

2. The comic is also way too depressing. By the end of the 4th TPB Rick is a raving lunatic and by the 6th TPB everyone you cared about is dead (spoilers!).

The characters on the TV show have more depth, the interpersonal conflicts seem more genuine and I feel that the gore has a stronger impact on screen than it does in print. I don't care if they're averaging 1 zombie kill per episode. If I wanted to just watch zombies get slaughtered for a couple hours I'd watch Dead Alive...

.. note to self, rent Dead Alive.

Game of Thrones Season 2: Game Thronier

Here's the first trailer for the second season of Game of Thrones. I'm guessing it looks a lot better if you've actually seen season one of Game of Thrones. I'm about 100 pages into the book, so I have no idea what's going on or who any of these people are.

This week on a very special The Walking Dead

Ever wonder what The Walking Dead would look like as a sitcom from the 80s? Well then, Merry Christmas. Here's what Santa got you.

Newt Pledges Moon Base by 2020.Woo Woo you know it! I've been really bummed about the level of crazy in the Republican primaries every since Herm Cain dropped out and people stopped listening to Michelle Bachman. Thank goodness Newt promised a moon base. If I was Mitt Romney I'd immediately counter with an Ayn Randian undersea utopia.

How to Eat Food. Ugh, Candy Corn is the worst. What's it made out of anyway? Ear wax and batteries?

Ong Bak Video Game coming never soon. I'll say it, Ong Bak 2 and 3 were awful movies. When is Tony Jaa going to get it? I don't care about Elephants!

The Return of the Neo Geo. Following the traditional Neo Geo business model these handheld units will cost $800 and you won't know anyone that has one. Still that one game they had at Spaceport where you play first person as a Ninja.. man that thing is awesome!

Adam WarRock's Waka Flocka Swanson

One of my favorite Nerdcore rappers Adam WarRock recently recorded a tribute EP all about the TV show Parks & Rec. It's not quite as good as his Firefly EP but it's better than the X-Factor one. Of course this song about Ron Swanson is off the heezy yo.

Off the heezy, that's stll a thing right?

download the entire parks and rec ep here.

The wireless signal is strong with this one

This Korean cell phone commercial staring Darth Vader brings up several good questions. First of which is why do women's bathrooms in Korea have some sort of giant communal sink in the middle of them while still having smaller sinks with mirrors in the traditional spot? Do you have to wash your hands twice?

Xbox rumors are just rumors.. for now

For whatever reason there were a lot of Xbox 720 rumors flying around today. It's kinda silly to start speculating on a console that first off won't be called 720 and secondly, is at least 2 years away. However that doesn't mean we shouldn't do it. What else are we going to do? All these TPS reports? pshaw

The big rumor here is that the new Xbox will have some sort of built in feature that will prevent it from playing used games. As someone that picks up used games all the time, I have no emoticon that expresses my frustration with this rumor.

I get the problem the video game industry has with the used game market. Every time someone buys a used game the publisher gets nothing, but how is that any different that say a car, or a book, or a DVD copy of Hard Ticket to Hawaii? Once I have bought a copy it's mine to do with as I please. If I want to let a friend borrow it, or get ripped off selling it to Gamestop, that's my prerogative.

The only way I can see the general gaming public not losing their shit about this is if they decided that in 2013 we're ready to skip the discs all together and just go with digital copies of games. I'm sure that won't get anyone's bandwidth throttled.

One Lego to rule them all

Here is the first drool worthy look at the Lego Lord of the Rings minifigs. You would think this is a good thing, but it's not. Either I buy these for my son and he won't let me play with them or I buy them for myself and don't let him play with them. I don't really see a middle ground here.

Sucker MC's better call me sire

LOL, that dog thinks it's people.

If you've been paying attention, and I don't know why you would, you've probably noticed a significant lack of activity here. Last week during snowpocalypsemaggedeon 2012 my house lost power for about 4 days. Then, the day after we got it restored, I had to report for federal jury duty.

I didn't get sellected for a jury because I'm super racist against white people but I still lost precious blogging hours. It will probably take me a couple of days to get back into the swing of things. I mean all these TPS reports aren't going to file themselves.

I find your lack of fleas disturbing

Here's some dog's barking the imperial march. Some of them are dressed up as Star Wars characters. Honeslty I have no idea what's going on here. I think this is a commercial for a superbowl commercial.

I'm way behind today and I don't have time to look this up. My house was covered in so much ice this morning it looked like Superman's fortress of solitude. The only reason I'm at work is because the power went out. I guess what I'm saying is look a dog with a puffy tail!

There's gonna be a blackout

I'm taking the day off to show my support of all the websites that have decided to black out to protest SOPA. It has nothing to do with the fact that it snowed like 6 inches at my house this morning.

Inappropriate Woo'ing

Here's a simple yet ingenious idea. Take a bunch of overly dramatic clips from saved by the bell and insert the fake Woooooo the audience would do every time two characters kissed.

In related news Mr. Belding was in the front row of the audience on WWE Raw last night. It was amazing.

The Uncanny Community-X

Artist Aviv Or blessed the internets today with this drawing of the cast of Community as X-Men characters. I think a good argument could be made that Jeff and Britta should be Rogue and Gambit but I'll let it slide...

..this time

Samsung's Transparent Smart Window is witchcraft

Watch this video and tell me Samsung's Transparent Window is not powered by the devil himself. I can't believe this kind of technology exists. Seriously, transparent computer screens? Why not just fire up the old flux capacitor and fly around on a hoverboard for a while.

Snowed in Links

The Best of Everything at CES. Good list, except they forgot about these blinged out headphones from iHip. Seriously, they're blinged out! Plus Snookie is there, how can they not be the talk of the show?

FX Passes on Powers TV Pilot. Argh, I was afraid of this. A superhero/procedural cop show could be awesome but stupid Heroes and the Cape pretty much ruined it for everyone. NBC! (shakes fist)

Rob Liefeld may or may not have seen 8 minutes of a Deadpool movie. It's hard to believe Rob Liefeld on this, but man I really want to. How hard is it to get a Deadpool movie? Elektra got a movie before Deadpool.. yeesh.

Razer's Fiona gaming tablet plays skyrim. I don't think I'd really ever use a gaming tablet but man this thing looks cool. It's basically what the Nintendo Wii-U should be but won't.

New Dark Knight Rises Trailer

Ok, so it's not a "new" trailer per say. It's really just the same trailer we've all seen a hundred times mashed together with clips from Batman: the Animated Series. Still, it's pretty awesome.

Modular Links

Mapstalgia, video game maps drawn from memory. I LOVE THIS SITE. Back when I was a kid with a 486 I used to play the crap out of any game I was able to get my dirty little hands on. Seriously, I must have beat the first level of Doom a thousand times but if you asked me to draw it for you I'd have a hard time remembering where the Grue went.

Sexy 2012 Disney Pin-Up Calendar. My wife has been looking for a new calendar for our refrigerator. Look no further dear!

How Things got Ugly at the 2 Broke Girls Press Pannel. Ugh, this show is sooo awful. I watched 5 minutes of it the other day and it was excruciating. It's like someone took all the hacky jokes from Joey and shoehorned the word Vagina in every couple lines. What's wrong with you America?

Mad Catz releases a high end customizable controler. I remember Mad Catz as the company that made all those awful N64 controllers back in the day. Thank goodness they survived the 90s, because they now make the most gorgeous controller I've ever seen. It's modular by design so you can swap out the dpad for the thumbsticks or vice versa. You can get concave or rounded thumbsticks and there are a couple different dpad options.

Now someone give me $100 so I can afford one.

Avengers vs X-Men promo art is coming

The nerds over at CBR got their sweaty little hands on some new promo art for Marvel's super-mega crossover: Avengers vs X-Men. It's all really good, I mean that's not a big surprise. Marvel made sure they had some of the better artists out there lined up for this. The interesting thing here (in my nerdy mind) is some of the fights shown. Storm just joined the X-men, and here she's battling Thor who just died. So either the writers are pulling a DC and wilfully throwing out continuity or Thor's going to be back soon and Storm isn't long for the Avengers. Or maybe Thor's a mutant now, Bendis is writing this so you never know.

more promo art after the jump.

Pwn Stars

Word of wisdom, if you plan on pawning a piece of the triforce don't expect to get full auction value. Seriously it's cash in hand, if you want full value put it on Ebay yourself.

the Pizza Bomerang is Epic in nature

Earlier this morning I saw this Pizza commercial on thedailywhat and I thought I'd share. It's easily the best Pizza commercial I've seen since that guy that dressed up like a mobster would shill for Godfathers Pizza. I think his name was Herman Cain.

oh yeah, NSFW due to severed penis.

yeah, severed penis.

Diablo III confirmed for consoles

So far 2012 looks to be the year of the budget in the DevilDinosaur household, so the twitter announcement that Blizzard is porting out Diablo III to consoles is great news. My desktop PC is about 6 years old and in desperate need for an upgrade. The other day the fan in the power plant went out and I had to scrounge in my spare parts box just to get it back up and running. It was a sad realization that my rig won't play anything more graphically demanding than bejeweled blitz. I have a newer laptop but really, laptop gaming? What's the point?

It'll be interesting to see how Diablo III actually plays on a console. Diablo has never had the most complicated control scheme or even really advanced graphics, so it should be doable. I'm also guessing it will be easier to join multiplayer games with friends on xbox live than the old IP address shuffle of Diablo II.

Here's to many sleepless nights in crawling for loot!

I'll ski on your lunch if I want

When you think about it James Bond is really the most American of spies. He uses awful pick-up lines to get chicks, he's always going to some foreign country and absolutely wrecking it and he takes a traditional drink and butchers it with goofy instructions just to look fancy at the Baccarat table. He's a set of truck nuts away from being played by Toby Keith.

Anyhoo, here's a music video of him being a total douche bag, enjoy.

Another new Star Wars special edition

The new 3d versions Star Wars haven't even hit the theaters yet and George Lucas is already lining up another special edition of Episode IV. This one is the XXX Parody version, which I assume means everyone will be on hoverboards and they'll be drinking a lot of Space-Mountain Dew. you know.. because it's so eXXXtreme!

Ok, 2 real thoughts on this. First it's amazing how cheap CGI has gotten. Some of the special effects in this are mind bottling, especially when you consider they probably only cost an eight ball and a couple of Can-Jobs.

Second, there aren't a lot of women in this trailer. That can't be good for anyone can it?

The New Ghost Rider 2 Trailer has the Power*

And the award for most internety thing I saw today goes to this mash up of He-Man and the Ghost Rider 2 trailer. We're all in debt to uber-nerd Jesse Wolf for putting this thing together.

Two things in this mash up really stood out to me. First off I love how much footage is taken from the He-Man Christmas special. The one where Skeletor learns the true meaning of Christmas. If I had to rank cartoon Christmas specials, that episode would be in there somewhere. Secondly I think Nic Cage would make a fantastic He-Man. Seriously, the part where about the kid turning into the Antichrist. I really thought Nic Cage was Prince Adam.

*The Power of Greyskull.

Soul Calibur V keeps it classy

Thank goodness I can read Kanji otherwise I might have thought this print ad for Soul Calibur V was for some sort of classy stripclub simulator on the 360.

It costs 1600 xBox live points to get into the Champagne room!

#2 Links

DC's #2 Again. 3 Months. That's how long DC's reign as the number one publisher in comics lasted. Maybe next time they relaunch all their comics they'll worry about the book quality a bit more.

10 weird times Marvel and DC unofficially crossed over. Now that Disney owns Marvel I bet you're going to see a lot less of this tomfoolery. Too bad, nothing better than spotting intrepid reporter Clark Kent in a Marvel book.

The 10 craziest things caught at airport security in 2011. I remember when I was a kid I brought an RC car onto a plane in my carry-on once. It even had a pistol grip controller. Man you could get away with anything in the 80s. I remember one time the pilot even let me fly the plane, true story.

40 best and worst photos from the Iowa Caucuses. I think if they didn't hold the first presidential Caucuses in Iowa it would be set adrift in the pacific, kind of like we did with Puerto Rico..

The first step to super nachos

Is making your own Doritos. Oddly enough, making your own Doritos is also the first step to financial security. Who knew?

This kid loves Leonardo

This poem to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Leonardo (he was my favorite too) by Timothy Jefferson is either the cutest or most heartbreaking thing you'll see today. After reading it I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to look my son in the eyes without bawling.

I love you Leonardo
You are my only friend
You're big and tall
I'm short and small
On you I do depend

Somebody give this kid a hug!

Vinnie Jones loves the Bee Gees

Noted soccer hooligan and actor extraordinaire Vinnie Jones (seriously have you seen that movie with him and Stone Cold Steve Austin? The one that's kind of like The Running Man but in a jungle, man that movie is awesome) did a CPR commercial for the British Heart Foundation. I like how they call it hands only CPR, like some advertising wizard out there was worried that Vinnie Jones giving mouth to mouth would be too gay. Trust me, if Vinnie Jones is giving you mouth to mouth it's only so he can revive you and kill you again.

An Illustrated Guide to Video Game Ratings

Clearly I have been playing Battlefield 3 all wrong. I know it's rated M for Mature but I have yet to experience the pixelated naughty bits level. Maybe it's DLC.

Humpday Linkday

Alex Rodriguez and Torrie Wilson spent New Years together. Every time Alex Rodriguez comes back to play in Seattle the fans boo the crap out of him. I just don't get it, he went to a team that offered him a quarter of a Billion dollars. How is anyone supposed to turn that down?

If you want to boo him for something, boo him for dating Torrie Wilson. Seriously, f that guy. BOOOOOO!

9 quirky things every cool workplace is required to have. If I ever get the chance to run an office there will be some quirky shit going on. Constant loops of Hard Ticket to Hawaii will be playing. Monkey waiters riding minibikes would be delivering drinks. Ben would be giving everyone Can Jobs. It would put all those Google slides to shame.

The absolute very worst movies of 2011. I saw Bridesmaids this weekend and while I didn't hate it, I think it was the most overrated movie of the year. Why didn't anyone warn me it was a total chick flick?

The first ever Kissing Suzy Kolber Fantasy Football Awards. My Fantasy Football championship game was last week and I just found out I won the league. I was something like 30 points down going into last Monday nights game so I never looked back at the standings. Clearly Jesus respected my decision to start Tim Tebow and helped Jordy Nelson score 3 touchdowns.

It's like Mad Men, but with more cheetos dust..

Here's 16 seconds of the new Kevin Smith tv show Secret Stash Comic Book Men. It looks like a thing. A thing you might see on TV.

That's all I've got. I've said this many times here before, I have the most boring conversations every time I go to the comic book shop. You know what I talked about last weekend when I was at the Shop? The Seattle Sounders and their need to shore up the outside of their defense. Also we talked about how much they would miss Erik Friberg. Then some guy came in and wanted to look at some of the heroclix. It's like a real life Big Bang Theory!

New Year's Resolutions

When Wil Wheaton says you're worse than hitler..

The other day on some BBC show Wil Wheaton said "the Kardashians are more depressing to me than Hitler", all while that guy from Singled Out sat there looking like a jerk in his bow tie/sweater combo. It was pretty funny so I thought I'd share. That's my new thing for 2012, I'm going to try and share more.

2011 the third year in mediocre blogging

That's right 2012 doesn't just mark the end of the world (thanks for nothing Mayans), it also marks the end of my 3rd year of blogging. I'd like to say I've been working on this year end round up the entire week I was off, but I'd rather not turn this into a blog of lies. A blog of flies maybe. In fact if the visits keep dropping a blog of flies sounds like a step up.

So without further ado here are the 10 most popular posts of the year (which in the end is completely meaningless given that the front page is still the single most popular destination).

WTF Eddie Van Halen. When I heard Van Halen was going back on tour with David Lee Roth this summer, I couldn't help but think of this post. Seriously, WTF Eddie?

Joseph Gordon Levitt should play the Joker. The wild JGL/Rise of the Dark Knight casting speculation was very good for me. So good this other post about him playing the Joker also finished in the top 10 this year.

Is Lindsay Lohan playing Supergirl? This post is only popular because of google image searches for Diora Baird. I figured why mess with a good thing on my year end recap?

The Ron Swanson Pyramid of Greatness. This year saw a lot of really great characters on TV and Ron Swanson was easily the manliest of the manly. His pyramid/manifesto was perfect.

Comic-Con Cosplay; Special achievement in hotness edition. Here's the lesson I learned this year: If you're going to do cosplay round ups put the word hot in them.

Generic Robots Fighting Part 3. Out of all the movie trailers I put up this year, this one for Transformers 3 was in my top 10? That is depressing as hell.

Dog Fort. I jumped on the Dog Fort bandwagon super late and he still finished near the top. Entertainment Weekly should have named Lobster Dog the entertainer of the year.

Amy Pond knows how to party. Karen Gillan, who plays Amy Pond on Doctor Who, was found passed out drunk and naked in a hotel hallway. How is it no one had a camera phone? Where did this happen, 1997?

Even more Cosplay from this year's Emerald City Comic Con. Ok, so it looks like you don't need to add the word Hot to your Cosplay round ups to get a little Google love. All you really need are Fetts.

Thunderwear: the sexy holster. It's a holster that fits in your underwear. It's also the most DevilDinosaur thing on this years top 10.

Oh yeah one more fun thing. Here are the top ten keywords bringing new people to the site this year. eddie van halen, nicole scherzinger hot, diora baird, harley quinn cosplay, joseph gordon-levitt, the rock, crotch gout, glen plake, joseph gordon-levitt joker, ron swanson.

That's right.. Crotch Gout. Good thing I'm still suffering from it, I see 2012 being a big year for Crotch Gout.
