Quake running on an Oscilloscope, 'cause reasons

Uber-nerd Pekka Väänänen has rigged up an Oscilloscope that runs Quake. Why? Because it's the year 2014 and if you have a piece of tech laying around you damn well better see if it will run Quake.

Check out all the gory details here.

Ho Ho Links

20 People Who Took Gift Wrapping to the Next Level. These are pretty cool, I wish I had thought of a couple when I started wrapping gifts this year. I don't know what it was but this was the year of odd sized presents. Ever tried to wrap a soccer ball? That's like 7th level of hell stuff right there.

'Evil Dead' scoop: Bruce Campbell reveals series details. WooooWoooo, I am on board the hype train for this one. A few years back when they did the Evil Dead remake I finally resigned myself to the idea that there will never be an Evil Dead 4. I mean there's still not, but a 10 episode series on cable is like the next best thing. Too bad I don't get Starz... quick to the Torrents!

Iggy Azalea Has To Be Nice To Azealia Banks Or Her Sex Tape Will Leak. Are there any winners in this story? I'm pretty sure the demand for an Igloo Australia sex tape is somewhere between non-existent and vomit inducing.

In completely unrelated news here's where I'm going to talk about SyFy's big mini-series event Ascension. I finished it last night and I have to say I really liked it. It's not like it was on Lost or Game of Thrones level or anything but for a SyFy original it was pretty darn good. Like a lot of Science Fiction I thought the set up was better than the conclusion but I was always interested in where it was going and I plowed through the series pretty quickly. That has to account for something.

Tracking a Gadget’s Journey From the Mine to Beneath the Christmas Tree. Interesting long form article on the way our beloved doodads get here from China. Being in the import business myself I found the part where they ride on the container ship to be especially cool.

Tarot and the Krampus and the Worst Christmas Story. Tarot is kind of a bad comic but it's an insanely bad comic. Read the review and skip the actual book.

Welp, this is probably it for the year. I'm going to spend most of now through the first at home with the children. I probably won't be doing much blogging. Look for the big 2014 wrap up in another week. In the meantime Merry Christmas, Festivus, Kwanza, Chanukah, Solstice, etc.

Christmas Wish List: Better Pro Wrestling

Hey kids it's December! You know what that means? Every day in December I plan on posting one thing from my official DevilDinosaur Christmas Wish List (patent pending). Why? Because I can.

Being a fan of Pro-Graps (ie professional wrestling) isn't always the easiest thing in the world. Lets just look at the picture above, that's Cody and Dustin Rhodes (sons of Dusty Rhodes) on local morning news show. Dustin is the one in the Santa hat while Cody is the one in FULL ON STARDUST RING ATTIRE AND IT'S AWESOME. See, that's why being a pro-wrestling fan is hard. Stardust is goofy as hell and he's awesome. On the other hand John Cena is also goofy as hell and he sucks hard.. How do you explain that?

I tell you, it would be a lot easier if the WWE actually made their weekly flagship show watchable. I understand that professional wrestling is never going to be the coolest thing in the world but man, right now they're not even trying. Even the most die hard fans are tired of saying "let's wait and see what happens with this.."

On the plus side the WWE developmental show NXT is FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC right now. So I guess there's hope for the future. Or even if there's no hope I could just stop watching RAW and start watching NXT regularly. If you think Stardust is crazy just wait until you see Fin Balrog Balor.

Hey Look, they remade Night Trap

Ok, so maybe Until Dawn isn't an exact remake of Night Trap but don't tell me it's not a modern day version of that sega CD "classic". In case you've forgotten Night Trap was one of those choose your own adventure style of games utilizing state of the art full motion video that were popular with the advent of the CD-Rom. The gameplay had you trying to save a group of girls at a slumber party from a hacker slasher bad guy that turned out to be a group of vampires. Like most FMV games you were reduced to making a choice in a menu and then watching the video unfold based on your choice.

Which is pretty much what this Until Dawn game is except instead of FMV they've just motion capped Hayden Panettierre in a towel. I don't know, call me crazy but the controls to a game are less complicated than Candy Crush I'm not 100% sure you've actually created a video game. Maybe a Blu Ray with extra special features?

Bonus Night Trap walk through:

Can you believe that at one time this was considered the most vile thing in video games. There were Senate hearings and everything. Man the 90s were crazy.

Christmas Wish List: Christmas Spirit

Hey kids it's December! You know what that means? Every day in December I plan on posting one thing from my official DevilDinosaur Christmas Wish List (patent pending). Why? Because I can.

Did you know there are like 7 days left until Christmas? Where the F is my Christmas Spirit? I mean I've watched a couple made for TV Christmas movies and been to a couple holiday parties but for whatever reason it just doesn't feel like Christmas yet. This is supposed to be my favorite time of the year, what's wrong with me? Watch, the second I start really getting in the Christmas groove it'll be Dec 26th.

The 12 WWE Days of Christmas

Here's the 12 Days of Christmas as sung by the current WWE roster. I mean it's not the entire roster, just the guys you see on RAW every week in the same stupid matches. If you see me this Christmas be sure to ask me my thoughts on the WWE. Make a drinking game of it, every time I say Vince McMahon is out of touch and senile take a shot. You'll be dead in like 4 minutes.

Top Ten Disappointing Games of 2014

Machinima has released this nice little video of their Top Ten Disappointing Games of 2014. Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Halo... notice a pattern here It's not just that these are big $$$ mega-franchises, although that's important to note, it's that many of these games were rushed and published without being %100 done. Say what you will about Rockstar and Valve taking forever to publish games but at least when they do it the games are ready to go. Which would you rather have. A new slapdash Call of Duty or Battlefield game every Holiday season that is barely an upgrade from the previous version or a whole new super kick ass experience every 2 or 3 years?

... The Blurst of Times: 12 Dates of Christmas

This years relatively slow Holiday season has provided me with ample opportunities to explore the depths of Lifetime and the Hallmark Channel's Holiday programing. With "..the Blurst of Times" I'll tell you all about whichever horrible made for TV movie I watched the night before.

12 Dates of Christmas is totes a Christmas rip-off of Groundhog Day. There's no two ways about it. Amy Smart's character is knocked out by some secret Christmas magic and spends the rest of the movie repeating the day before Christmas. That is until she finds true love in Mark Paul Gosselaar. Sorry I spoiled the ending for you.. With that that being said, it's a really good Christmas rip-off of Groundhog Day.

Frankly, and I know this sounds stupid, Mark Paul Gosselaar is kind of a good actor, so is Amy Smart. Arguably, they're both better than a cheeseball made for TV movie by on the ABCFamily channel. I guess their career loss is our Christmas gain. Like I said, it's a Groundhog Day rip-off. The first half of the movie Amy Smart spends the day before Christmas repeatedly attempting to break up her old boyfriend with his current girlfriend. She also has to deal with the inconvenience of a blind date with Gosselaar. Somewhere along the line she figures out it's not her ex-boyfriend she really misses, she's just lonely. Enter the dreamboat formerly known as Zack Morris.

Compared to last year's Christmas movie review, Help for the Holidays, 12 Dates of Christmas scores two thumbs way way up. I can certainly think of worse ways to spend the Holiday season, like hanging out with your family.. yuck.

Christmas Wish List: Homemade Retro Console

Hey kids it's December! You know what that means? Every day in December I plan on posting one thing from my official DevilDinosaur Christmas Wish List (patent pending). Why? Because I can.

Some guy on reddit posted this homemade Raspberry pi powered console emulator yesterday and it's all I've been able to think about for the last 24 hours. It doesn't look like it would be THAT expensive to build, $70-100 with controllers and it only looks moderately difficult. I mean I've put together PCs for years this can't be that different. It looks like the most complicated part is getting the software all set up. I don't know man, money is tight right now but imagine the possibilities. Thousands of NES, SNES Genesis games all loaded into a sleek, portable little unit. I know my son would get a blast out of it.

Maybe in a couple months I'll sell some more comics and put the money into a Raspberry pi fund. This just looks like too much fun not to give it the old community college try.

Teens React to Mega Man

It's been said before by smarter gamers than I, but as far as overall difficulty goes today's games are friggen clown shoes compared to games on the Atari and NES. Watch a bunch of teens get destroyed trying to play Mega Man, one of the more notoriously difficult games on the NES.

I had my own first hand experience at this just this weekend. For whatever reason Logan really wanted to play Zelda: A Link to the Past, so I dusted off the old SNES and we played for about 30 minutes. That game is TOUGH. I spent the first 5 minutes just trying to figure out how to equip my bombs. Long story short, you're on your own Zelda.

The Navy Blows Stuff Up with Lasers

Did you know the Navy has lasers? Did you know they have hype videos with cheezy electronica for their laser technology? Well, aren't you a mister smarty pants.

I assume this is just phase one of project Dr. Evil. If I was North Korea I'd start getting really nervous right now.

Christmas Wish List: A Famous Chili Recipe

Hey kids it's December! You know what that means? Every day in December I plan on posting one thing from my official DevilDinosaur Christmas Wish List (patent pending). Why? Because I can.

I really wish I had a signature recipe. It doesn't have to be chili, it could be anything. I'd just like to be able to cook one thing that friends and family would love so much that they'd request it all the time.

Then of course I would spill it all over the floor.

Honest Trailers: Guardians of The Galaxy

You know those guys that do those Honest Trailer things? Well they did one for Guardians of the Galaxy. That might seem like an awkward way to introduce this but honestly what am I supposed to say? It's a funny internet thingy that most everyone is completely familiar with. In fact you've probably already seen this somewhere else. Some blog run by bloggers without families or real jobs or co-workers looking to undermine their Christmas joy at every turn.

Christmas Wish List: Flux Capacitor Watch

Hey kids it's December! You know what that means? Every day in December I plan on posting one thing from my official DevilDinosaur Christmas Wish List (patent pending). Why? Because I can.

Does anyone wear a watch anymore? I know everyone was excited for the new iWatch for like 2 minutes but smart watches aren't a real thing, right? They're just the logical replacement to the old calculator watch. More of a bright flashy geek identifier that actual useful thing. Anyhoo, if I ever was to wear a watch again it would most definitely be this Back to the Future Flux Capacitor Wristwatch. Look at all the fluxs this watch gives. That my friends is a real statement piece.

To tell you the truth I'm not even sure if it tells time.

WWE 2K15 in a Nutshell

Remember a couple weeks ago when I said I was interested in the newest WWE game, WWE 2k15. Yeah, I kind of take that all back. What can I say? I'm easily swayed.

Debt Links

The people have spoken! Kirk Cameron’s ‘Saving Christmas’ is IMDB’s worst film of all time. Yikes... In related news I watch some of Candace Cameron's (now Bure) Hallmark Movie Channel original Christmas under wraps and it wasn't half bad. It was no A Very Merry Mix Up or Help For The Holidays but it was pretty good. I'm guessing at least 4 IMDB stars better than Saving Christmas.

Simpson’s safety posters can really come in handy while at work. These are pretty rad. If I had some spare duckets this christmas I might order a few for the office. As it stands right now I don't think I could swing the printer ink to print my own. That's what kids will do to you, I'm too broke to steal.

Krysten Ritter Is Officially ‘Jessica Jones’ In Marvel’s Next Netflix Series. Ok, now all they have to do is cast James Van Der Beek as her famous neighbor and we're in business. Seriously I miss Don't Trust the B--- in Apt 23 so much. That and Better off Ted.

Why isn't America's massive debt being considered a larger problem? I'm not going to act all crazy here and tell you that the national debt the US is carrying right now is a good thing, but next time your Uncle starts talking about how the Chinese own the US now go ahead an point him to this very well reasoned post on why the national debt isn't all doom and gloom.

The 2014 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Here's your yearly reminder that what the average person thinks is sexy and what Fashion people think is sexy is two VASTLY different things. Also if you do watch might I suggest you turn it into a drinking game? Every time CBS cuts away from exposed butt cheeks do a shot. You'll be in a coma in 15 minutes.

Skeletor and He-Man singing Jingle Bros

I'm pretty sure the advertising wizards at Honda are scanning my brianwaves for ad ideas. If their next add involves Diora Baird dressed up as Josie from Josie and the Pussycats selling a new Accord Wagon we will have confirmation.

Seriously Honda, get to work.

Christmas Wish List: Star Wars Lawn Ornament

Hey kids it's December! You know what that means? Every day in December I plan on posting one thing from my official DevilDinosaur Christmas Wish List (patent pending). Why? Because I can.

I finally got around to putting up the Christmas lights on the house yesterday. The lights look pretty good but outside of a wreath for the front door we don't really have any other Christmas decorations to go with them. I'm not sure if this Star Wars Lawn Ornament is that Christmasy but I could put some lights on it or something. Maybe have Santa in a snow speeder to go with it. I don't know, I'm just brainstorming some ideas.

Make it So, Let it Snow

I think I've posted this before but who cares? I could post videos of Jean Luc Picard singing Christmas carols 24/7 and I think it would be an improvement to the blog.

Christmas Wish List: Wakeboarding behind a car.

Hey kids it's December! You know what that means? Every day in December I plan on posting one thing from my official DevilDinosaur Christmas Wish List (patent pending). Why? Because I can.

It doesn't have to be a Ferrari F50 but someday I want to find a giant ditch and wakeboard behind a car. Maybe wakeskate if my insurance is up to date. I'm not going to lie whenever I see a news story on TV that involves massive flooding I always thinks about how awesome it would be to be able to kayak down to the local piggy wiggly (assuming it wasn't washed away). My house is situated on a big hill so I'm pretty sure it's a physical impossibility but I can always dream.

Christmas Wish List: Koss PortaPro Headphones

Hey kids it's December! You know what that means? Every day in December I plan on posting one thing from my official DevilDinosaur Christmas Wish List (patent pending). Why? Because I can.

I need new headphones. I've had the same pair of Sony Studio Monitor cans for probably 15 years. Don't get me wrong they're great sounding headphones but the leather has wore off the earpads and if I move around too much one side cuts in and out. These Koss PortaPro Headphones look awesome in a weird retro way and from everything I've read they sound great. I might actually buy a pair this Christmas.

Sorry I know this entry was boring, I'll come up with something outlandish for tomorrow.

He said he'd be back

So this teaser for the new Terminator: Genisys (ugh) trailer popped up on the web this morning. Remember the T-1000? He's back. Oh yeah, and so is Arnold... old Arnold. Because that's what robots would do if they were making androids, age them in a realistic fashion.

Hell, maybe they would? The whole point of the terminators was to infiltrate the enemy with a life like robot. Having older models might help camouflage them, it's not any sillier that having John Conner send his best friend back in time to both save him from killer robots and knock up his mom.

As long as they're bringing back older Terminator models can they bring the T-X. Kristanna Loken is still not unattractive.

Suicide Squad Cast, or Thanks For Helping Me Sell Comics DC

Yesterday WB/DC announced that they have cast some of the principals for a Suicide Squad movie. Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Jared Leto are some pretty big names and certainly shows their commitment to making this an honest attempt at a summer blockbuster not just another Jonah Hex. It also helped shoot my pending ebay auction for Suicide Squad #1 up to 31 dollars.

Honestly I don't care much about a Suicide Squad movie. The concept is cool, a group of super-villains sent out on a suicide mission to clear their names. I mean it better be cool, it's a complete rip off of the dirty dozen. Still, DC movies have a lot to prove to me. I like the Chris Nolan Batman movies as much as the next nerd but if they're going to grim and gritty it up over all their characters like they did with Superman, count me out. Still big names are big names and me selling comics is a bold new frontier for me.

I have about 4,800-5,200 comics in my collection (I have most of my collection counted and databased but there's still 5-6 boxes unaccounted for). That's something like 26-28 short boxes of comics which is a lot of space in the house dedicated to comic books. Comic collecting is also a moderately expensive hobby. Comics these days cost 3.99 a piece and publishers are starting to ship books a slightly increased paced. A couple years ago a title might have shipped 12 times a year, now some books are up to 14-16 times a year. Even a short pull list like mine, combined with the single issue or trade every now and then can run a collector 60-70 dollars a month. So what to do when a hobby becomes expensive and unwieldy? Sell Sell Sell!

About a month ago I sold a 7 issue run of Batman on ebay for $102. Then I followed it up with a couple Deadpool books and a Guardians of the Galaxy #1 that got me a combined hundred bucks. Currently I'm selling another Batman #1 and the aforementioned Suicide Squad #1 that are going for a combined $55. I don't expect to be able to maintain that kind of return for any length of time. I've been picking and choosing highly sought after books to maximize my Christmas budget but the end goal of having a collection that pays for itself and allows me to maintain a reasonable amount of comics seems pretty obtainable. That's pretty cool if you ask me, a lot cooler that Will Smith as Deadshot... Maybe as cool as Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

Christmas Wish List: More Twitter Followers

Every day in December I plan on posting one thing from my official DevilDinosaur Christmas Wish List (patent pending). Why? Because I can.

It's stupid how much I enjoy something as patently stupid as twitter. It's easy to dismiss twitter when all you hear about it in the lamestream media are Kardashians and Beliebers but I've found it to be a great way to connect with people that enjoy some of the same niche hobbies that I do. Not to mention it's a very interesting way to follow news stories. I think I first really started using it when there were some mild riots in Seattle a couple years ago. Getting immediate pictures and updates form users on the street was really interesting and a lot more fun that just watching the traditional tv news coverage.

I saw an uberfact pop up the other day that says less than 5% of all twitter users have more than 100 followers. As I write this I have 88 followers. So if you're not following me already you should totes do it now. Where else are you going to hear random thoughts about pro wrestling and comic books?

Submarine Links

The Best Hidden Features of VLC. VLC is great, I've been using it for a while to play ripped DVDs and Blu Rays that I may or may not be acquiring through illicit means. I had no idea it had so many other uses. Like did you know you can use it to save youtube clips? Or stream out of area MLS matches in HD? Seriously I saved myself a ton of cash by using VLC to watch the Sounders in the playoffs this year.

Which I wouldn't have had to do if the MLS hadn't signed such a terrible TV deal with NBC sports.. jeez they are the worst.

11 Wonderful Former Disney Rides. I can't believe the Submarine voyage is gone. I haven't been to Disneyland since I was 12 but I can't believe Submarine Voyage isn't there anymore! That's one of like 4 rides I vividly remember. Next thing you'll tell me is that the Swiss Family Robinson house isn't there anymore.. NOOOOOO!! I don't want to hear it!

25 Movies Every Man Should See. This list is a little too "Maxim's definition of manly" for me, but there's no denying that there are a lot of great movies on it. Rio Bravo in particular is a fantastic movie that a lot of doofus kids probably wouldn't watch because it's too slow or John Wayne is too fat. Stupid kids, get off my lawn.

Stand By Me - Then and Now. Speaking of slow movies that kids these days probably wouldn't appreciate. This Then and Now photo gallery of locations from Stand by Me is really interesting. It's kind of depressing to see a few of the run down locations look even more run down after 25 years. Seriously Brownsville, get your act together.

Are These Provocative Ads For Coca-Cola’s New Milk Product Sexist? First off the very idea that Coca-Cola is getting into the milk business is kind of gross. I can't wait until clear milk, or new milk and then the return to milk classic. Also once one person says these adds look like some kind of porno all you're going to see is semen. Semen everywhere....

Christmas Wish list: RC Cars vs Mini Drones

Hey kids it's December! You know what that means? Every day in December I plan on posting one thing from my official DevilDinosaur Christmas Wish List (patent pending). Why? Because I can.

RC Cars! Mini Drones! A battle for supremacy! This video either needs to be made into a video game or a full length motion picture. THEN I need my son to get really into RC cars so we can start playing with them. Seriously there's this school up the street from my house and they have an old football field with a cinder track that never gets used just sitting there begging for some RC mayhem.

Lego Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens Teaser Trailer

It took someone all of 24 hours to recreate the Star Wars Episode VII trailer in Lego. I'm kind of surprised it took that long. If I'm a big time movie studio with one of the most eagerly anticipated trailers of the season in my pocket I'm going to go the extra mile and make a lego trailer all on my own, plus probably a sweeded version. Maybe even one where all the actors have been replaced by Grumpy Cat.

New Star Wars trailer is no Turkey

Hey kids, remember Star Wars? It's back, in pog trailer form. Earlier today the teaser trailer for Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens was released on line. I've only watched it 30-40 times so far. When Lucas sold the rights to Star Wars to Disney and they announced a slew of new movies I really didn't want to get sucked into the rabbit hole, but here I am. Bounce Bounce.

I just love everything about this teaser. The suspenseful nature of it, the X-Wings, Stormtroopers without their helmets, the mother loving Millennium Falcon doing a barrel roll being chased by honest to god Tie Fighters. Don't even get me started on the lightsaber with a hilt... It's going to be a very long 12 months.

Turkey Sized Links

Kirk Cameron Tried To Flood RottenTomatoes With His Followers, Was Quickly Swamped By Trolls I feel like if Kirk Cameron didn't exist the internet would have to create him. The basic story here is that his new movie Saving Christmas is awful. At least that's what the lamestream media would like you to believe. Kirk rallied the troops on facebook t flood RottenTomatoes with positive reviews and he kinda got the opposite. Unless he thinks "difficult to masturbate to" is a positive review. I mean it kinda is, I doubt that's what they were going for.

Not Even Steven Spielberg Is Allowed To Remake ‘The Last Starfighter’. Remember just the other day when I was pontificating over a remake to The Last Starfighter? It turns out there's a very good reason Hollywood hasn't tried to remake it. They can't. This is one of those rare instances where the screenwriter has the controlling rights to a remake and he will not allow it. Good for him.

Mark Cuban made billions from an open internet. Now he wants to kill it. This is pretty much the most american thing ever. Billionaire is against the very thing that helped him earn his billions simply because now that he's a billionaire it's not in his best interest. And to think, Mark Cuban was my third favorite shark.

Craigslist was down: a short interview with the hacker blamed for it. This is a fun story, YTCracker is like a real life Zero Cool from Hackers if Johnny Lee Miller had went on to becoming a DJ and rapper as opposed to a Benedict Cumberbatch impersonator.

4 Reasons 'The Walking Dead' Hates Humans More Than Zombies. David Wong pokes some holes in the basic conceit behind most Zombie stories not just The Walking Dead. The idea that the second a zombie apocalypse hits society will be cast into two different groups, bad ass zombie killers and hapless zombie food.

One of the reasons I really enjoyed World War Z (the book not the horrible movie) was because it took this idea and turned it on it's ear. People with tangible skills like doctors, plumbers, carpenters and electricians became incredibly valuable while lawyers and bankers were left shoveling zombie corpses. Man... now I'm thinking about World War Z. I might have to reread that again.

DC Comics Claims Valencia's New Crest Looks Too Much Like Batman Logo. On the surface this copyright claim by Warner Bros seems ridiculous as Valencia has been playing soccer for over 100 years and have always used a bat in their crest. HOWEVER, this is specifically over their new logo, which looks a whole lot like the Batman Beyond bat symbol (not pictured here) which I assume has also been trademarked or copyrighted or whatever the legalese is.

Don't get me wrong, I think Warner Bros will still lose but I think the case is far less of a laugh that most bloggers are making it out to be.

Jurassic World Trailer will find a way

Apparently the trailer for Jurassic World didn't want to wait until Thanksgiving. Here it is in all it's youtube glory.

I love that the plot here is "fuck it, we made the park anyway". It's like in the Mighty Ducks 2 when coach Bombay was shocked that the players hadn't been practicing during the summer. I wish Senor Spielbergo had actually directed the movie. Even when he's on autopilot he's a fantastic "popcorn" movie director. Still looks good so far. The trailer seems to have just the right amount of throwback scenes and new hotness. I'm excited over the idea that the park is full when everything goes nuts. This summer lets party like it's 1993. I'll bring my Tag Team cassingle.

7 Ways to Compliment Breasts

We've all had that moment where we think someone is talking or waving to us and it turns out they're really talking to the person behind us. This video is just 2 minutes of that and it's hilarious. Even better, if you go over to youtube to watch it some of the comments are gold:

Nice job! As a redditor, I really appreciate a good prank. Especially if it involves beautiful m'ladies such as these. On we love playing pranks as well. One of our favorites is taking photos of women in public and publishing them on the internet so others can masturbate to them. The Park is Open

I can't believe we live in a world where movie trailers have trailers but here we are. This is the like 4 seconds long teaser to the Jurassic World trailer that will debut this Thursday while the Seahawks whoop up on the Santa Clara 49ers.

I had no idea Chris Pratt was in this, much less Chris Pratt in a vest. I'm buying my tickets today!

Skeletor just wants to sell you a compact SUV

Ever since they stopped selling the Accord wagon I haven't really had much interest in buying a Honda but Skeletor here makes a pretty good pitch. My car doesn't have a back up camera at all. How am I supposed to tell if He-Man is behind me? Check my mirrors like an idiot. Nice try, Orko.

The Last Starfighter: The Modern Trailer

Hooweee, this "new" trailer for The Last Starfighter is a straight punch to the old nostalgia kidney (the most sensitive of all kidneys). I've always felt like The Last Starfighter gets lost when you're talking about classics from the 80s. I know the special effects don't hold up at all, although considering this was CGI from 1984 they're kind of amazing, but the story is so good. I'm kinda surprised no one has tried to remake it. With the technology they have today I bet it wouldn't even cost very much to make. Ride that nostalgia train all the way to the bank, baby. Choo Choo!

Pitch Perfect 2 is a thing with a trailer

Pitch Perfect is one of those movies that was a HUGE hit in the theater and all my friends wouldn't shut up about it and by the time I finally saw it on an HBO free preview weekend I was a bit disappointed. Kinda like Bridesmaids... Still here's a thing I know Ben will be excited about. Enjoy!

WWE 2K15 is Body Slamming my Budget

Sweet Christmas, the launch trailer for WWE 2K15 looks amazing. Cesaro in a motion capture suit? Yes please.

I'm not going to front, I'm pretty jelly right now of my PS5 and Xbox One brothers and sisters right now. I thought a Wii and a PC would cover any video game needs for the next couple years but THE NXT CHAMPIONSHIP IN A VIDEO GAME? That's something I didn't know I wanted until I saw it.

Cinemax-W will be showing the Avengers or the Hunger Games or something and then Cinemax-E will be showing the Boner Games. If the family hasn't gone to bed you better be quick with the clicker. The other day I was watching something and my son asked me why the people on TV we biting-kissing. That's a weird conversation to have with a 5 year old.

This Wooden All-in-One Neo Geo Arcade System Is an Absolute Work Of Art. Oh man, I want to do something like this so bad. Look at that thing. There was a guy on reddit that took an old arcade cabinet and turned it into an emulating monster and it looked HELLA complicated.

I should look into retiring early. I need more time for projects.

Examining Jim Sterling's Grand Experiment To Create Video Game Journalism Utopia. You probably don't know who Jim Sterling is but he's a video game reviewer that has a decent sized fan base. I used to read a lot of his reviews over on Destructiod. One of the reasons I liked his reviews is because he clearly gave no f's. He would give COD Black Ops a perfect 10 because he actually liked it but then he would give Mario Kart 7 like a 2 because Nintendo don't own him. In a world where even shitty games get 7s or 8s just because they're major releases it was refreshing.

Anyway, he's doing this thing on Patreon where he's asking viewers/readers to effectively pay his salary so he can keep reviewing games independent of any website. It's an interesting idea and one that might have a much larger impact on video game journalism that any group of gamergaters could hope to have.

Marvel is literally covering their asses

Remember a couple months ago when Spider-Woman's butt felt like the biggest story in comic books? Well Marvel has finally decided on a cheeky solution to the controversy. They covered Spider-Woman's ass with the title (pictured above). I guess everyone can go back to complaining about the shit-show the Fantastic Four movie is turning into. Nothing to see here.

Retron 5 Console Review

I want to say that last year I wrote a little blurb about the Retron 5 (or maybe it was the 4) but I never really followed up on it. At first glance a console that plays NES, Famicom, SNES, Super Famicom, Genesis, Mega Drive, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, & Game Boy Advance cartridges with an HDMI output seems like a really f-ing awesome thing. Of course the devil is in the details and some of those details aren't even like details, they're anti-details.. entails? Whatever, this review by Lord Karnage is pretty good. Check it out.

Ted Cruz doesn't understand Net Neutrality... Is terrifying

So a few days ago Ted Cruz made some headlines by claiming that Net Neutrality was Obamacare for the internet because I assume he believes his constituents are all idiots. A few people called him out on talking like an nutjob and so he did what any member of the Senate subcommittee that regulates communications, technology, and the Internet would do. He posted this video on youtube that demonstrates very accurately how deep he is in Verizon and Comcast's pockets.

It boggles my mind that as a nation we put people as woefully misinformed as Ted Cruz is in charge of anything more important than an Arby's morning shift. And that's not just a Republican thing, there's a local "socialist" politician that once said the Boeing union workers should take over the manufacturing plants and start building mass transit instead of instruments of war. Because 787s be dropping bombs in Ferguson Missouri. I'm moving to Canada. No way they elect morons up there.

Gymkhana 7

Ever wanted to see a professional rally car driver hoon around LA in a 900hp 1965 Ford Mustang? Well then it's Christmas in November... Seriously one of our neighbors already has his lights out. I thought there was a war on Christmas. How come they were playing holiday music at the mall already?

Jake Murray really wants to be on American Ninja Warrior

This guys submission video for the next season of American Ninja Warrior is pretty awesome. I hope he makes it. I also hope he brings the guy with the violin, really class up the show.

Captain Links

Meet Captain Marvel: Fighter Pilot, Feminist and Marvel’s Big Gamble. Hey Time Magazine did a big online article all about Captain Marvel. Hooray! Also Time Magazine has the worst looking website. Ugh.

The article itself is pretty good and gives you lots of info on Captain Marvel and the creators behind the character, I just wish it didn't label the project "Marvel's Big Gamble". Seriously, they also announced a Black Panther movie and an Inhuman's movie and the one starting a woman is the gamble? Just to key you in the Inhumans are a raced of superpowered beings that live on the moon. Their leader can't talk without blowing up a planet, their Queen Medusa has "hair power" and they get around with the help of a giant teleporting dog. Yeah, Captain Marvel is the gamble. No institutionalized sexism or anything to see here...

Captain Marvel: 8 Actresses We'd Cast. Speaking of Captain Marvel, lets fire up the speculatron as to who will nab the lead role. The 8 actresses Geekytyrant throws out are a good start although there's heavy rumor that Jessica Chastain may have already got the part. I'm throwing my vote for Emily Blunt. I know as an honorary Carol Corps member it's supposed to be Katee Sackhoff or nothing but I kinda think there are better actresses for the part (sorry Corps).

British swimsuit calendar shot on Utah National Guard base 'without proper authorization' sparks investigation. Someone's getting fired... Seriously, how can a seemingly sane person that's worked for years in the military and raised up the ranks high enough to be in charge of a National Guard base decide "Sure, why wouldn't we let some company come here and shoot a sexy calendar?" USA! USA! USA!

Margot Robbie Reportedly Cast As Harley Quinn In Suicide Squad. I haven't seen Wolf of Wall Street but I hear Margot Robbie steals the show (possibly due to lack of wardrobe). She's definitely not unattractive, interesting to see if she can get that right mix of crazy, tough and vulnerable that makes Harley Quinn so beloved.

Wait, they're making a Suicide Squad movie? What the hell, when did that happen?

Salmon Cannon

I'm going to go ahead and post this video from Last Week Tonight With John Oliver sight unseen. I have it on good authority from a friend that it's hilarious and with a name like Salmon Cannon I feel like I can take his word for it.

Too Many Cooks

This new show from Adult Swim, Too Many Cooks, seems pretty interesting. The cast is a little small for me and would it kill them to throw in a couple unexpected twists? Oh well, it's still light years ahead of anything NBC is doing.

Skeletor's Best Insults

Here's a supercut of Skeletor's best insults from He-Man: Masters of the Universe. Skeletor really seems like he's filled with a lot of rage. He should see someone about that.

Here's a fun fact for you. He-Man never punches or hits anyone with his sword in Masters of the Universe. The show came out after the FCC loosened some regulations on kids cartoons and the creators were worried that if the show was too violent it would get pulled. So He-Man cuts things like rocks and trees with his sword but whenever he has to fight a bad guy he wrestles them and throws them into something. No punches thrown.

Hardcore: The totally not a porno trailer

Here's a trailer for Ilya Naishuller's homage to the first person shooter, Hardcore. You might remember that last year he did a short 4 minute movie called "Bad Motherfucker" that went viral. Looks like this virus paid off and he was able to parlay that into a full length film. He's still looking for cash to do all the editing and special effects. Check out his IndieGoGo page if that's your sort of thing.

I can't imagine spending $12 to see something like this in the theater but I'd gladly sit through a few adds to watch it on youtube or vimeo, so Good Luck guy whose name I can't even come close to pronouncing.

Don't forget to Vote

Danger Island

... and here's the first 15 minutes of Danger Island. If you're interested in watching the rest I believe I still have it on VHS. You bring the popcorn I'll provide the Coors.

Who ya gonna Call?

Here's a shot for shot remake of the original Ghostbusters trailer done by a group of middle schoolers. It's infinitely better than the Return to Danger Island mini-movie I tried to make while in high school. Me and like a dozen guys filmed the credits and spent the rest of day playing Nintendo. It's probably better off we never finished it. We had too many Joe Laras and not enough Kathy Irelands.

Awkward Interviews with Cosplay Girls

I know this video is old and seemingly random but it's still pretty funny so I thought I'd share. Basically Greg, I think his name is Greg, with Mediocre films has responded to criticisms that his cosplay interviews are creep by making them as awkward as possible.

The extra layer of comedy here is that his regular interviews can be a little creepy and disrespectful but that's kind of the joke. Yeah, it doesn't exactly enforce the best gender stereotypes but none of the participants ever seems to be upset about it. Sometimes people need to relax a bit. Or maybe they don't I don't know anymore. It's 7 in the morning on a Saturday and I have to go to work (thanks Obama), I'm barely awake right now.

Call of Duty: Discover your Power

For the last few years Activision comes up with these new Call of Duty commercials that always make me kinda want to revisit the franchise (Black Ops was the last one I played). This year is no different, first they have these TV ads with Kevin Spacey that look cool because, hell its Keyser Soze telling me to shoot things with future guns. Now they have these ads staring Taylor (Battleship wasn't that bad!) Kitsch and Emily Ratajkowski. They're pretty cool too although I'm not sure I'll be able to look at Emily Emily Ratajkowski ever again without seeing a goat.

And thus concludes my yearly Call of Duty post.

Impersonating Links

More Fun Fact About Indiana Jones. Now this was a fantastic list of obscure movie facts. Porkins was in Raiders? Harrison Ford crashed a plane? An Elephant ate Kate Capshaw's dress? This list is gold Jerry, Gold!

4 Horrifying Facts About the Sexy Halloween Costume Industry. I'm not sure I would go so far as Horrifying, maybe disturbingly interesting?

Seattle Times Furious with FBI over Allegations That the Agency Impersonated the Newspaper. I don't know exactly how "furious" the Seattle Times could really be. The FBI was trying to catch someone sending bomb threats to local high schools. Long story short they made up a e-mail that looked like a survey from the Times, sent it to him and it infected his computer with spyware that allowed them to find him. It was a targeted attack and it's not like they were looking for someone with an overdue library book. They were looking for a potential school bomber. Oh yeah and it was 15 YEARS AGO. Maybe the Times needs to chillax on this one.

BTW, the Beastie Boys in Sabotage is what I imagine every FBI agent looks like.

Stephen Colbert Took On #GamerGate In Glorious Fashion. Right when this thing is getting some national attention I'm starting to think the whole GamerGate thing is played out. It's a small group of assholes. Don't give them anymore attention and they'll go away. Still Colbert is funny and we only have so many episodes left before he replaced Letterman...

I do declare this to be my last GamerGate post, short of one of those idiots blowing up a gamestop or something.

Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War Teaser Trailer

I'm not sure when it happened but overtime this blog clearly has become an advertising arm of Marvel Studios. Here's a Death Blow cam look at the Avengers: Infinity War teaser. There's not much but it's still pretty cool. The crowd reaction really puts it over the top. Only 4 and a half years away!

New Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer... already?

So as promised Marvel released a new trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron last night during Agents of SHIELD. Considering their first trailer leaked to the web early I don't think any actually anticipated them coming up with a completely BRAND NEW TRAILER. There's at least 50 seconds of new footage here. It's amazing. Just watch it.

Marvel Phase 3

Hey kids, you like movies? Cause Marvel is going to make some movies. A lot of them. Roughly a thousand.

Earlier today at a big press conference thingy Marvel Studios announced Phase 3 of their much vaunted shared movie universe. Here's the list of films along with their preliminary release dates:

May 6 2016: Captain America: Civil War
November 4 2016: Doctor Strange
May 5 2017: Guardians of the Galaxy 2
July 28 2017: Thor: Ragnarok
Nov 3 2017: Black Panther
May 4 2018: Avengers: Infinity War Part I
July 6 2018: Captain Marvel
Nov 2 2018: Inhumans
May 3 2019: Avengers: Infinity War Part II

Summer 2020: Reboot City

Ok, so that last one was made up.

There's a lot to be excited about here. First thing and probably the most important, would be the added diversity to the Marvel Movie Universe. Once Marvel proved that you can make a billion dollars with a movie staring a Tree and a Racoon it was pretty silly of them to hold off on a film led by a person of color or a woman. We're getting both. Sure there will be 8 movies staring blonde guys named Chris before one Black Panther movie but progress is progress.

The second biggest thing to get excited over is a little thing called the Infinity War. For those unfamiliar the Infinity War was a limited series that spun off from the Infinity Gauntlet, one of the all time classic Marvel stories. The basis behind it was the that mad Titan Thanos stole these gems, each with a tremendous amount of power, slapped them all on this cool looking glove and became god for a day. His first act was to kill half of all living things in the universe as a tribute to his on/off girlfriend Death. Eventually earth's greatest remaining heroes save the day. Like I said classic Marvel.

My guess here is that the powers that be at Marvel will be adapting the Infinity Gauntlet story line and not the Infinity War story line. The Infinity War story meanders a bit and doesn't have the classic confrontation of the original. I'll bet they just balked at the idea of naming their most ambitious film after a type of glove.

Here's the Avengers: Age Of Ultron trailer set to Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On. You're welcome.

What Is GamerGate? Here’s An Explainer For All The Confused Non-Nerds Out There. Uggg... Against my better judgement, here's a bunch of bullshit on GamerGate. If you haven't been following the GamerGate scandal consider yourself lucky. It's 99.9% trumped up bullshit and an excuse for bullied nerds to in turn do some bullying of their own. If you really need an example of how people on the internet can be awful for the stupidest of reasons just show them anything related to GamerGate...

The Future Of The Culture Wars Is Here, And It's Gamergate. Double uggg... If something as stupid as Video Game Journalism can devolve into the shitshow that Gamergate has turned into imagine if it was a more relevant topic like politics or religion. Are you for gun control? Well I hope you're ready for your address and phone number and credit history to be leaked to the interweb. You don't think 9/11 was an inside job? Hope your blog can handle a ddos attack. You don't want to hear about our lord and Savoir the flying spaghetti monster? Don't worry in 5 minutes we will have someone at your F'ING DOOR READY TO SPREAD THE WORD!

What Happened To Felicia Day Is Everything Awful About #GamerGate. Triple ugggg... I've been to the GamerGate subreddit, I hear it's where all the "real" GamerGate is happening. Not the trumped up sexist lies the lamestream media is reporting to make these real GamerGate warriors look bad. They have NOTHING. At most they have been able to point out that video game journalists are dependent on big video game companies for access to do their jobs and that can sku their reporting. Guess what dipshits, that's the problem with journalism everywhere. If a reporter for Road and Track dumps all over Ford guess who's not getting invited to the next Ford media event. ESPN pulled out of a report on head trauma in the NFL because they're in bed with the NFL and didn't want to jeopardize that relationship. Politics in DC have always been like this. If a reporter is too critical of the powers that be they can have their White House media pass pulled.

But no, lets ignore all of that. In the grand scheme of life the fact that IGN gave Call of Duty too high of a score is a big fucking deal and totally worth ruining peoples lives over. Get bent GamerGate.

Why I Love Speed Wagons (And You Should, Too). Before I inherited my Passat Wagon I thought wagons were kinda cool but now that I've had one for a full year I can 100% say wagons are awesome. Don't get me wrong, my car still kinda sucks but that has everything to do with early 2000s German "engineering". The actual functionality of a wagon is second to none. I love it and I wish more auto manufacturers would make a traditional wagon. None of this crossover nonsense. Low and boxy is how I roll.

The Future of TV Is Great If You Hate Sports. I tweeted about this a few days ago but you probably don't follow me on twitter (@KevinNewburn) so I'll repeat: The idea of switching from your regular cable service to 10 different a'la cart streaming options doesn't sound very appealing to me. Not to mention that cord cutters are just fooling themselves when they still keep the cable company around for their internet provider. I'd much rather see Cable companies provide more varied options when it comes to subscriptions than have to subscribe to a dozen different aps. I have this feeling that net nerds keep thinking that there's some magical streaming TV option out there that's going to provide everything you want on demand for a ridiculously low monthly fee but there's not.
